About Us

Welcome to our blog!

We’re Alex and Gabs, one South African, one Austrian on a mission to travel the world.

It all began on the 1st February 2013 when we met in a Caribbean restaurant in Bristol and got married just a few months later on the 25th May 2013. You can imagine the slight shock in both our families, but after 5 years we’re still together so it was worth the risk.

We’ve always been keen travellers and over the last few years we have seen nearly all of Europe as well as parts of the states and a lot of southern Africa.

We lived happily in a wooden cabin on a beautiful farm with a small campsite in Gloucestershire when we were asked to move out one day in spring 2017. We looked around but rent was so expensive that we decided that this might be a sign as we wanted to go travelling for a while but never really set a date. So we bought a caravan with awning in which we stayed for exactly one year. Needless to say that the winter of 2017/18 was one of the harshest in a long time but thankfully the summer was equally unusual and was one of the hottest in a very long time too. During this past year we sold as much of our possessions as we possibly could and only kept the things that were most dear to us.

We had a great year in the caravan and made it super homely. We even built a floor in the awning, which really paid off during this cold and wet winter and in the end we were quite sad to see our little home go.

Our original set off date was the 1st August 2018. Very sadly Alex’s mom passed away on the night before we were due to catch the ferry so of course we turned around and spend the following weeks with Alex’s family.

We eventually set off on the 24th August 2018 and are now on our way south to Spain and Portugal. With no time constraints we can really take our time and explore whatever comes our way. We also hope to get some casual work opportunities along the way. So we decided to set up this blog so we can document our journey and share it with family, friends and whoever is interested.

Why don’t you come and roam with us…
